Micronit B.V. was founded in 1999 as a spin-off of the University of Twente (The Netherlands). Our mission is to provide innovative lab-on-a-chip and MEMS solutions that will help improving products and research, contributing to the quality of life. Micronit provides solutions for product development and manufacturing of microfluidic devices starting from initial concepts and designs up to high-volume manufacturing. The products are manufactured in a high-tech cleanroom facility located at the University campus. Micronit has extensive know-how and intellectual property in the field of micromachining for microfluidic applications. Our unique combination of micro- and nanotechnologies, different materials, microfluidics and MEMS knowledge and customer application knowhow, enables us to provide innovative and sustainable solutions.

Role in PHOENIX

Micronit is in charge of the development of the consumable chips developed in PHOENIX. Leveraging on its experience in transitioning from PDMS to thermoplastic elastomers for cell culturing and plastic/electronics hybrid integration, Micronit is responsible for the design for manufacturing of the µHeart and µNMC Organ-on-Chips.

Main contributions and activities:

  • Provide input for the industrialization of the OoC technology produced in PHOENIX
  • Manufacturing of the hybrid Base and Pro chips
  • Contribution of the commercial exploitation strategy
