Multi Channel Systems MCS GmbH was founded in 1996 and is based in the Science and Technology Park in Reutlingen in Southwest Germany. MCS operates globally from this location. Since Oct. 2014 MCS is a division of Harvard Bioscience, Inc. Multi Channel Systems focuses on the development of precision scientific measuring instrumentation and equipment in the field of electrophysiology for research groups at universities and for the pharmaceutical industry. We provide solutions for in vitro measurements of extracellular activity from excitable cells with the help of micro electrode arrays (MEAs), in vivo recording systems for extracellular recordings, and fully automated recording systems for intracellular recordings. Over 20 years of experience and our international distribution network make us the global market leader in the field of non-clinical electrophysiology with microelectrode arrays.
In PHOENIX, MCS will re-design its entry level hardware for recording of 3dMEA and 3dFORCE, building on its well-established expertise in multichannel recording systems. At this stage, MCS will also develop a basic software to extract the recorded signals in a readable/exchangeable file format. During later stages of the project, MCS will develop an upgraded version of the read-out system, compatible with the increased throughput of Pro platforms and enabling continuous electrical recording. Online data analysis will be possible thanks to an Alpha version of software, that will be further optimized according to feedback of end-users. Finally, together with the other industrial partners in the project, MCS will actively pursue commercial exploitation of the developed platforms.
